TRIBUNAL GRAND ISTANCE

Paris, France

2009

Urban integration of a Courthouse: density, permeability and balance are major urban elements. The key phrase is 'a new expression for the values of a law system'. With this notion in mind the concept of TGI and its urban project was developed.

TGI, with its three blocks, supports and gives access to the roof of the Freysinnet Hall. Seamless flow is created between the new and the old, evoking a feeling of satisfying freshness. The project aims to welcome people seeking justice, whether they are the culprit or the victim.

The existing requirements have not changed but instead have been improved. Permeability has been maximised: it has been achieved by placing stands and boardwalks in strategic positions. Everything adapts to a new morphology created by the iceberg.

The Courthouse seeks to give the impression of equality, fairness and accessibility. According to European Union law one is innocent until proven guilty.
