GETTING CLOSER GETTING BIGGER

The geographical location of the strait places the coasts of Messina and Reggio Calabria in an 'intimate' yet very difficult relationship.
The structure is characterized by their concentration on the strait, but each coast seems to ignore the presence of the other.
The project aims to promote the strait, conceiving it as a common space, a means to communicate that makes the creation of a new structure possible.

FLOATING GARDENS

The idea of a floating water park is a key step for a new large-scale conception of the city.
The strait is no longer conceived as a barrier, but rather as the union of two complementary worlds in a more complex system.
The project aims to create an 'intermediate' place, a unique and sustainable concept and an alternative solution for the strait.

MESSINA INTERMODAL STATION

The new Intermodal Station of Messina will be the door to Sicily, a place for social and economic encounters and at the same time a crucial opportunity for the city of Messina to exploit its unique position on the sea.

The building allows for the intersection of different means of transport on different levels. It allows for the arrival of ships and trains on the ground floor at the same time, it has a large car park and a bus station on the first floor and upstairs pedestrians can enter and exit via the ferries.

The sequence of gradients also allows pedestrians to be in constant contact with the coast.
