Mendrisio, Switzerland

Architecture for the present is the expression of being contemporary as a result of combining our visions and our roots. The past must not be looked at with nostalgia but as something that shows us the values for any human interaction.

Architecture means relating to the present, regarding it as a result of history, traditions and memories, which together make up the context in which a project comes to life.

Following these guidelines, in the southern part of Switzerland (more specifically in the 'Alto Mendrisiotto' region of Ticino) a new municipality was built, a result of combining six urban centres that share the same historical and cultural roots and the same geographical area: Mendrisio, Arzo, Capolago, Genestrerio, Rancate and Tremona.

This project aims to create a modern urban centre that on the one hand can effectively communicate with neighbouring regions, both Swiss and Italian, and on the other hand lead to the consolidation of culture, tourism and education in the region, creating unity of purpose in respect of the individual needs of the older public.
